Walnut barqueñera table, 17th century. Turned legs joined with double chamfers are secured to the table top with curved wrought iron fasteners. This type of furniture was made to hold and display wastepaper baskets or desks, and they were utilitarian objects, but were often decorated in a restrained manner so as not to detract from the piece they supported. In this case, the movement for which Baroque art is known is seen in the legs and fasteners.
