Pastoral box. Antler. Spanish school, 19th century. Box made of antler carved in its colour, rectangular in shape with an oval base, which opens towards the middle, one part fitting into the other. On the outside it has an engraved decoration of simplified plant motifs in the upper and lower areas, several bands of lines and, on the part that acts as a base, an inscription (Francisco Bermejo) probably alluding to the owner on a figurative composition (a human head, birds perched on one side and a wild boar passing by on the other. This type of box, of popular tradition, was common in ancient times and was usually made by shepherds or cattle breeders themselves to store snuff or tobacco.
