Provincial “secretary”. Cherry and pine wood, metal. Louis Philippe period, France, circa second third of the 19th century. Tall cabinet made of cherry and pine wood with a top that reveals a desk (five drawers and a shelf space), and two doors in the lower area of the same. It is a French provincial work from the Louis Philippe period (Louis Philippe I of France, monarch between 1830 and 1848, reigned after the fall of Napoleon supporting the bourgeoisie and allowing the country to enter the Industrial Revolution). Artistically, the style of the reign stood out for being a mixture of French Neoclassicism, with elements of Neo-Gothic and other styles; the present example, however, is a provincial piece, related to other traditions and production centres far from the Parisian court.
