Collection of engravings by Gustave Doré (1832-1883). “Madrid, Engravings by Gustave Doré”. Special edition directed by Antonio de Horna. Madrid, Culture and Art Collection, De Horna Editores. Compilation of engravings directed by Antonio de Horna made by Gustave Doré, a great draughtsman and engraver known, above all, for his work for an edition of “Don Quixote”, published in London in 1880, which was very well received by the public. Successful in France, he moved to live in England, where he was even more appreciated for his visions of the Victorian costumbrista environment of the mid-nineteenth century. Antonio de Horna, in this same book, accompanies a brief biography of the author with the intention behind this collection: “his true glory… would come to him… when his indisputable genius was recognized, captured in more than ten thousand drawings and engravings.”
