Victorian dressing table. Mahogany, metal, glass. England, 19th century. A carved mahogany dressing table with turned front legs like banded columns topped with vase-like shapes, a drawer at the front and a recessed upper body with three drawers on each side and an enclosed space in the centre under the rectangular mirror, which has been enhanced with openwork plant decorations on the sides and a small tuft of architectural motifs on the top. The Victorian style is known as the style imposed during the reign of Victoria I of Great Britain towards the second half of the 19th century, popular in the country and very influential beyond its borders. The clean lines contribute to highlighting the grain of the wood, of great quality, and refer to a long tradition in English furniture, almost always characterised by fewer decorative elements than French furniture.
