Mirror. Carved wood. 17th century. Mirror with a slightly rectangular carved wooden frame that has a metal piece on one of its smaller sides so that it can be hung on the wall. The frame has been decorated with a composition based on somewhat fleshy plant elements concentrated in the corners and in the centre of the smaller sides without protruding from the mouldings in which they are located, and with a series of fine, smooth mouldings towards the interior. Although plant decoration is one of the most common in art, the curves, depth, lines, etc. that the piece presents can be linked to works from the Baroque of the 17th century. Nowadays, the value and appreciation of frames is on the rise due to the search for them by museums and important institutions, with the aim of giving the works the frames they would have had originally. Hence, similar examples can be found in some paintings by masters of the time (Vermeer, for example), or can be found in important museums.
