Palillero. “Little donkey with two baskets.” On a circular base decorated with classically inspired eggs stands the naturalistic figure of the donkey, with two baskets on its back, which serve to hold the chopsticks. The combination of elements taken from Neoclassicism with details more characteristic of the Avant-garde (Realism, naturalism, a certain pictorial treatment of the animal, etc.) is striking.

Part of the Safari series. Nachtmann (FX Nachtmann Bleikristallwerke GmbH) is a still active fine glassware factory founded in 1834 by Michael Nachtmann in Unterhütte, Oberpfalz (Bavaria, Germany). In 2004 it was taken over by Riedel, who has continued to carry on the brand and its name. Weight: 1.7 kg.
