Rectangular devotional plaque depicting a relief of Saint John the Baptist, holding a book with the Lamb and a staff topped with a cross, accompanied by the partially erased legend “NON SV RE XIT MAIOR” (in reference to the text of Matthew alluding to Saint John, “non surrexit inter natos mulierum maior Ioanne Baptista”). This is a very common type of plaque since the 17th century in Spain (compare the two examples in the Lázaro Galdiano Museum in Madrid).

Part of the Safari series. Nachtmann (FX Nachtmann Bleikristallwerke GmbH) is a still active fine glassware factory founded in 1834 by Michael Nachtmann in Unterhütte, Oberpfalz (Bavaria, Germany). Enameled porcelain jug. Inspired by Sèvres and Art Nouveau models. The jug, with a high profile and curved spout, is decorated with alternating bands of turquoise green with flowers and white with lines and stems. The handle has been worked into the shape of a flower, with a curved stem. It is this prominence that The curved line and nature are what link the piece to Art Nouveau models from around 1900, while the decoration relates it to French porcelain centres such as Sèvres.
