Erato. Framed engraving. TORRAS ARMENGOL, Francesc. Spain, circa 1874. Framed etching showing a female figure in a natural landscape, holding a stringed musical instrument in one arm. In ancient Greek mythology, Erato was the muse of choral lyricism and love and, since the Renaissance, she has been depicted crowned with myrtle and roses and carrying a small lyre or a zither, sometimes with a golden arrow, etc. This etching was originally part of the first volume (number 45, as indicated in the upper corner) of the El Grabador al Aguafuerte collection, which went on sale in 1874. It is a print created by Francisco Torras y Armengol (Tarrasa, 1832 - Madrid, 1878).
