Pair of 17th century safe keys. Wrought iron. Measurements: 13.5 x 4.5 cm. Pair of wrought iron safe keys, dating from the 17th century, with a complex design on the head, hollow body and flattened arched top. Since the late Middle Ages, it was common for safes and cash chests to have two or more locks, the keys to which remained in the possession of different people. In this way, it was ensured that the safe was only opened in the presence of the owners of all the keys.
