Plants; Helleboraster maximus, etc. Coloured engraving, framed. 20th century, inspired by BESLER, Basilius (1561-1629). Hand-colored and framed engraving showing, in the center, a plant, flanked by two smaller ones. All three have their name, in Latin, below them, highlighting the central one, Helleboraster maximus, named Helleborus foetidus by Linnaeus in 1753, is a genus of angiosperms of the Ranunculaceae family, and one of its varieties is known as the Christmas rose. The plate is inspired by one from the work “Hortus Eustettensis” by Basilius Besler (1561-1629), who was a respected German doctor, pharmacist, and botanist, from Nuremberg.
