Pair of miniatures in medallions, Ferdinand II of Portugal and Isabel II of Portugal. Cardboard, metal, glass. 19th century. Pair of cardboard miniatures showing busts of a man and a woman within medallions, these in turn placed in a frame with two hanging points, on a textile upholstery matching that present in the miniatures. Ferdinand II of Portugal (Vienna, 29 October 1816 - Lisbon, 15 December 1885)1 was King “iure uxoris” of Portugal by his marriage to Queen Maria II (1819-1853), from the birth of their son in 1837 until her death in 1853. The miniature of the queen is reminiscent of one in the Royal Collection Trust in England, signed and dated 1852, by Sir William Ross.
