Reference: ZF1257

Gothic mortar. Bronze. Spanish school, 15th century. Tubular mortar with a slightly curved mouth and a sunken cylindrical base that presents a relief decoration centered on a strip on the outside of it. This is made up of four handles with geometric shapes (from one of them hangs a metal ring with engraved lines), between which appear two simple ribs with a rectangular base and triangular profile, located alternating tip and base. This type of ribs, in the Spanish school, is linked to Spanish-Muslim influence (compare the mortar with that of the 11th century from Monzón de Campos that is preserved in the Balaguer Museum). Compare them with those preserved in the National Archaeological Museum (Madrid), dated between the 15th and 16th centuries, also noting the differences; with the 15th century example from the Seattle Museum (United States of America); one with rings from the 13th century referenced in the RCCAAC; etc Weight: 4.3kg.
