Cameo or intaglio. Glass. Possibly Italy, 19th century. Blue glass cameo depicting a scene with a marked classical influence, in which a man with a diadem, half-naked and seated, is seen being grabbed by the legs by another bearded man, under the watchful gaze of two other male figures. The scene is set in a rich interior, hence the presence of the curtain, the table and the torch holder. This type of piece was created in large numbers as they were highly appreciated as souvenirs by travellers on the Grand Tour, and several were often collected together to form collections.
