Cameo or intaglio, Boy with bird. Glass. Possibly Italy, 19th century. The figure of the boy holding a bird can be compared, due to its resemblance (in fact, it is based on it), to the Roman sculpture of the same theme in the Villa Borghese in Rome (Italy), of which numerous "copies" were made in various media (sculptures, cameos, intaglios, etc.). This type of piece was created in large numbers as they were highly appreciated as souvenirs by travellers on the Grand Tour, and several were often collected to form collections.
