Buffet table. Walnut, iron. Spanish school, 16th century. Walnut wood table with a rectangular top protruding on the sides, iron fasteners decorated with discs and stipe legs in the shape of scaled columns joined at the bottom by a carved jamb with architectural elements ending in volutes, resembling in shape the legs called "San Antonio". Walnut wood was the most common in antique Spanish furniture, and the lack of decoration in the upper area is due to the fact that they were pieces of furniture designed to be “dressed” (covered with a cloth). It is compared, in its general lines, with the so-called Inquisition Desk, dated around 1600 and preserved in the National Museum of Decorative Arts in Madrid. Also preserved in a private collection is a table with decoration similar to the present one, dated towards the end of the 16th century. These decorative elements carved into the legs show a clear classicist influence, which is why it is linked to the Renaissance.
