Short barrel. Iron. 19th-20th century. A short iron cannon with two pieces on the sides for better attachment to the support and a series of rings along its outer surface. Due to its size and these decorative elements, it is reminiscent of ancient artillery such as bombards. These types of pieces were made in the 19th and 20th centuries, inspired by antique examples, primarily for decorative purposes and usually intended for interiors decorated in the Neo-Medieval style, very fashionable in Spain in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Medieval cannons, enormous firearms for firing a heavy projectile over great distances, are the archetype of modern artillery. Possibly the first to be used in Europe appeared in Muslim and Christian Spain. The bombard, currently considered the oldest known portable firearm in the West, was a precursor to the cannon.
